Director of Supply Chain

Position Summary

The Supply Chain Director is responsible for department employees, selecting and managing suppliers, implementing competitive material and outside service agreements, effective and efficient scheduling of manufacturing work areas to meet customer demand, maintaining proper inventory levels to support business operations and ensuring accurate inventory.

Skills/Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.

 

  • Bachelors degree in Business Management, preferably Purchasing or Scheduling related
  • 10 years supply chain experience, 5 years of metal purchasing experience, APICS certification a plus
  • 5 years in a managerial role
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently required to sit and talk or hear; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage supply base, qualify and develop suppliers, manage relationships which ensure stable performance for KMC.
  • Enhance supplier program to improve supplier performance and drive continuous improvement throughout the supply chain.
  • Create on-going competitive material and outside service pricing, manage and generate cost savings.
  • Manage inventory levels and implement methods to support business operations while increasing inventory turns.
  • Establish and operate cycle count inventory systems to ensure accurate inventory.
  • Oversee production scheduling for timely delivery of customer orders supporting effective and efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Continually introduce methods such as kanban, visual systems and other lean methods to reduce cost of purchase and inventory levels in alignment with manufacturing needs.
  • Manage department employees including performance management, training, developing, coaching, coordinating activities, resolving issues, ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Improve Supply Chain Department by leading, analyzing and supporting projects including department metrics to help drive overall department performance.
  • Co-establish part plan process and ensure proper use at the facility level.
  • Establish and maintain capacity planning activities for labor and equipment.
