Position Summary

The Director of Business Development is responsible for leading efforts associated with KMC’s growth of revenue and profit for its OEM business, coming from new programs with current and new customers. This individual will lead a focused team that includes outside & inside sales representatives and independent Manufacturer’s Representatives. They will work closely with a broad cross-functional group within KMC to ensure an outstanding customer experience. This customer facing leadership role will direct KMC’s effort in streamlining the sales process and improving our new business hit rate through the creation of customer level strategic plans and other methods. The Director of Business Development will also lead the professional development of the team.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Engineering or other related field and at least five (5) years of experience in supporting Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customer relationships including account/relationship management, contract negotiation & execution and sales process execution. Experience in supporting KMC’s target markets is a plus.
  • Positive attitude with high energy, self-motivated, coachable with a desire to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct KMC’s Business Development Team in establishing and executing strategic plans for KMC’s Top 20 customers.
  • Develop relationships with customers and co-workers to facilitate a collaborative work environment.
  • Assist the VP of Sales in the creation of a Business Development Team culture that emphasizes a high level of performance, work-ethic, accountability and professional growth.
  • Assist in the continued development and execution of key metrics for Business Development.
  • Provide active management of KMC’s new business pipeline using available tools.
  • Manage the performance of independent Manufacturer’s Representatives.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the Business Development Team in the day to day execution of their responsibilities.
  • Lead the Business Development Team and customers in support of the annual budget process and ongoing forecast management.
  • Create and actively manage material protection and inventory management plans.
  • Work with the Director of Sales Operations in managing semi-annual business reviews with customers.
  • Assist VP of Sales with ensuring consistent delivery of KMC’s value proposition through the corporate presentation and engagement guidelines.
  • Act as a point of escalation for other KMC associates in support of customer relationships.
  • Provide leadership support for customer visits to KMC facilities.
  • Perform annual reviews for direct reports.
  • Help establish compensation models to incent the Business Development team in alignment with company goals.
  • Travel to customer locations to engage in strategic planning activities in support of new and ongoing business.
